a disappointing shoot for various reasons: less than ideal lighting, using manual mode but not setting exposures carefully, spots on my sensor (the worst self-own), choosing the wrong lens, unexciting subject matter / composition, etc. there are a couple of examples of serious of photoshop sky replacement, a guilty pleasure. one of my favorite things about The Pinnacles, equal to the weird rocks and raptors and native flora, etc., is that from almost every vantage point you get views of long mountainous horizons that are completely free of any signs of civilization: no roads, no power lines, not even farms. and there’s a lot of green on those mountains this time of year, which will turn dusty gold and brown in a couple of months. though the park isn’t large, with those booming views you feel like you are in a huge area of unspoiled central California landscapes. so while there are a handful pictures I like here – in some ways the close ups of brightly colored lichen are my favorite – file this one under learning the hard way.
